Hazardous Waste Round-ups

Updated August 31, 2015

Cerritos residents can safely dispose of used motor oil, electronics, computer equipment, cleaners with acids or lye, paint, batteries, pesticides, weed killer and chemicals from hobby and art projects at a Household Hazardous Waste Round-up. The Round-ups, free for Los Angeles County residents, are planned regularly by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, in cooperation with local cities.

The Round-ups have been a great success. In one year, more than 500 Cerritos residents participated in local Round-ups, dropping off more than 53,000 pounds of toxic materials. More than 20,000 pounds of this waste, including antifreeze, car batteries, fluorescent bulbs, paint, and motor oil, were recycled.

Disposing of these hazardous wastes in any other way is dangerous and illegal. Hazardous waste dumped into sewers, storm drains and trash bins can seep into ground water, damage sewage treatment plants and pollute the ocean.

For the date and location of the next Household Hazardous Waste Round-up, call the County's toll-free hotline, (888) CLEAN-LA, or visit the L.A. County website.
