Tournament of Roses® Parade Floats

The City of Cerritos is proud to have showcased the community in the annual Tournament of Roses® parade from 2002 to 2010. Hundreds of community volunteers helped decorate the float each year. The Tournament of Roses® Association reports an estimated 40 million people in America watch the Rose Parade on television, in addition to the 1 million people who watch the parade in person. Millions of people around the world also watch the Rose Parade on TV from more than 200 international territories.

2010: “City of Dreams”

On New Year’s Day 2010, Cerritos was featured in the Tournament of Roses Parade® with a float. The theme of the parade was “2010: A Cut Above the Rest.” The City’s float featured a magical Venetian theme with a gondola.

Awarded: President's Trophy—most effective floral use and presentation

2009: “Camelot — A Knight's Tale”

Celebrating the world-class Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts and the idyllic quality of the City of Cerritos, the City’s float featured a king and queen in elegant floral costumes, a pair of knights, a castle and lush floral gardens. The float was 55 feet long, 18 feet wide and 28 feet tall.

Awarded: Grand Marshal's Trophy for “Excellence in Creative Concept & Design.”

2008: “Festival of Lanterns — Illuminating the Way”

Celebrating the City’s cultural diversity, the float featured a procession of majestic, animated horses pulling an oversized cart laden with magnificent floral displays. Lanterns from various festivals and countries festooned a parasol on the float. The float was 55 feet long, 18 feet wide and 30 feet tall.

Awarded: Lathrop K. Leishman Trophy—most beautiful float entered by a non-commercial sponsor

2007: “Nature Rocks”

Celebrating the important role that music has played in our lives throughout the course of history, the float featured a stylish Elvis-saurus and his dinosaur band moving and playing along with “Jailhouse Rock” and “We Will Rock You.” The float was 55 feet long, 18 feet wide and 30 feet tall.

Awarded: Bob Hope Humor Award—most comical and amusing entry

2006: “Magical Music Machine”

The City of Cerritos 2006 Tournament of Roses Parade float saluted the wide variety of musical entertainment offered by the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. The float depicted a whimsical, colorful and highly animated "Magical Music Machine" floating high above floral clouds to the beat of patriotic tunes. The theme of the 2006 Rose Parade was "It's Magical."

2005: “Families Make a Community”

The City of Cerritos 2005 Tournament of Roses Parade float paid tribute to families through the depiction of Mountain Gorillas relaxing in a beautiful setting. The theme of the 2005 Rose Parade was "Celebrate Family."

Awarded: Tournament Special Trophy Exceptional Merit

2004: “Rhapsody in Blue”

The 2004 City of Cerritos Rose Parade float celebrated “Music, Music, Music,” the theme of the 115th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade. The City's float saluted the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.

Awarded: Craftsman Trophy

2003: “Learning Can Be Magical”

The City of Cerritos’ entry in the 2003 Tournament of Roses® parade celebrated the City’s commitment to education with an animated float titled “Learning Can Be Magical.” The float featured a 50-foot tall bookworm.

Awarded: Judge’s Special Trophy

2002: “Fun for Everyone”

The City of Cerritos’ first-ever float in the Tournament of Roses® parade featured a colorful, rotating carousel crowned by a calliope complete with music and steam.
