Recycled Water Distribution System

The City of Cerritos irrigates more than 200 acres of City-owned property, including most parks, parkways and medians, with recycled water. The waste water originates from industries, businesses and homes and is treated by a three-stage process by the Sanitation District before being used for irrigation.

Construction and Demolition Ordinance

In 2007, the Cerritos City Council adopted a construction and demolition ordinance to promote the reduction of solid waste and reduce the stream of solid waste going to landfills as a result of construction and/or demolition. The ordinance establishes requirements and project thresholds for recycling and reuse of a percentage of waste. In addition, the ordinance states that within 14 days of completion of the demolition phase, and within 14 days of completion of the construction phase, the applicant shall submit documentation to the Cerritos Waste Management Division to demonstrate waste handling efforts. For questions or concerns, please contact the Cerritos Environmental Services Manager at (562) 916-1266.

To obtain roll-off or bin services for the collection and recycling of construction and demolition waste, please contact Athens Services at (562) 259-1239. Contracting with Athens Services for a project's waste hauling services automatically brings a project into compliance with the City's Construction and Demolition Ordinance, provided that the project manager meets with Public Works staff for verification of compliance.
