Recreation Services Program Highlights

Following is a listing of certain upcoming Recreation Services Division programs and activities. Many of the activities require advance registration and participation numbers are limited. Cerritos residents receive priority in registration. To find out about registration dates and procedures, please call the Recreation Services Division Office at (562) 916-1254.

Halloween Festival

15th Anniversary Evening of Remembrance

Cerritos residents and community members are invited to attend a special 15th Anniversary Evening of Remembrance on Sunday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Heritage Park. The event will be held in honor of the victims and heroes affected by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and will include performances by local entertainment, a formal ceremony hosted by the Mayor and Members of the Cerritos City Council; a candlelight memorial and a moment of silence. In addition, in recognition of September as National Preparedness Month, representatives from the City’s Volunteers on Patrol will be on hard to offer information encouraging citizens to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. The event is outdoors so please bring a blanket or chair for seating. Snacks will be available for a nominal fee. For the enjoyment of all and pursuant to the Cerritos Municipal Ordinance 9.48.030(p), dogs, cats or pets are not allowed in the park during special events and concerts. In addition, pursuant to the Cerritos Municipal Ordinance 9.49.020, smoking is prohibited within the boundaries of all City of Cerritos public park facilities. Cerritos Community Bike Event

The second annual Cerritos Community Bike Event is scheduled for Saturday, October 1 at the Cerritos Sports Complex. Cyclists of all ability levels are welcome to join the bike event, which consists of various course distances. Registration is underway and will continue through Saturday, October 1.

Registration fees are as follows:
Prior to September 1:
Family Ride: $5
15-mile Ride: $15
30-mile Ride: $35
50-mile Ride: $55

Between September 2 and September 29:
Family Ride: $10
15-mile Ride: $25
30-mile Ride: $45
50-mile Ride: $65

Between September 30 and the day of the event:
Family Ride: $15
15-mile Ride: $35
30-mile Ride: $55
50-mile Ride: $75

Only walk-in registration will be accepted on Friday, September 30 and on the day of the event.

Start time for the 50-mile ride is 7 a.m. The 30-mile ride begins at 8 a.m., and the 15-mile ride commences at 9:30 a.m. The family ride kicks off at 11 a.m.

In addition, in recognition of September as National Preparedness Month, representatives from the City's Volunteers on Patrol will be on hand to offer information encouraging citizens to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.

Halloween Festival

Come to the Cerritos Halloween Festival at Cerritos Regional Park, 19700 Bloomfield Avenue, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, October 31. Costume parades, entertainment, and food and game booths will be available for participants of all ages. Food and rides will be available for a nominal fee. For the enjoyment of all and pursuant to the Cerritos Municipal Ordinance 9.48.030(p), dogs, cats or pets are not allowed in the park during special events and concerts. Smoking is prohibited within the boundaries of all City of Cerritos public park facilities, pursuant to the Cerritos Municipal Ordinance 9.49.020.

Happy Haunt Fun Zone

Bring children ages 5 years and under to Cerritos Regional Park for a safe night of Halloween fun. Games, crafts and entertainment will provide your preschooler with enjoyment throughout the evening as part of the Halloween Festival from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 31.

Rides and Jumpers

A variety of rides and jumpers will be available. Most rides require each participant to be at least 40” in height. Adults may be required to accompany children on some rides. All participants must have a ticket or wristband to ride or enter jumpers. All rides and jumpers require one ticket. Tickets are $2 each or all-night wristbands may be purchased for $7. Tickets will not be sold after 8:45 p.m.. Bills over $20 will not be accepted.

Stage Activities

Families and individuals are invited to participate in stage activities and costume parades throughout the evening. All stage activities are free-of-charge and will be held as part of the Halloween Festival from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, October 31.

Volunteers

Individuals, 13 and older, and community organizations with an interest in volunteering at the Halloween Festival should call Heritage Park at (562) 916-8570, before Tuesday, October 11. All volunteers must have an application/waiver on file, be fingerprinted and attend a general volunteer orientation prior to October 12.
