Recreation Services Program Highlights

Following is a listing of certain upcoming Recreation Services Division programs and activities. Many of the activities require advance registration and participation numbers are limited. Cerritos residents receive priority in registration. To find out about registration dates and procedures, please call the Recreation Services Division Office at (562) 916-1254.
In honor of the 61st anniversary, the City of Cerritos will host a three-day festival that will include carnival rides, games and food at the Cerritos Sports Complex. A fireworks show will be featured on Saturday, April 22 at 8:30 p.m. Entertainment will showcase local talent and professional acts on the main stage. Gourmet food trucks will be on hand to provide an assortment of specialty menu items for purchase. There is no admittance fee to the festival. Rides in the carnival area will require tickets. All-day ride wristbands are also available for purchase.
The festival dates and hours are:
- Friday, April 21 from 5 to 10 p.m.
- Saturday, April 22 from 1 to 10 p.m.
- Sunday, April 23 from 1 to 9 p.m.
All-Day Ride Wristbands:
- On or before Thursday, April 20: $20
- Beginning Friday, April 21: $35
Let's go fly a kite! Sign up for this one-day workshop and build one of several types of kites, including cross kites, paper bag kites or box kites. After building and decorating the kite, spend the afternoon flying your creation at the kite derby. Store-bought kites are also welcome to the kite derby. All participants, including adults assisting children, must be registered in the program. The workshop will be held on Saturday, May 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $5 for Cerritos residents and $8 for non-residents. For more information, please call Cerritos Park East at (562) 407-2611.
On Saturday, May 20 from 1 to 4 pm, the Recreation Services Division invites the community to this free event in celebration of National Aquatics Safety Month in the month of May. Featured interactive demonstrations are designed to keep your family safe around bodies of water. Learn about the assortment of aquatics programs and activities offered year-round at the Cerritos Swim and Fitness Center.
The Lyon Air Museum in Orange County is comprised of authentic aircraft, rare vehicles and related memorabilia, with an emphasis on the defining event of the 20th century – World War II. Through captivating and thought-provoking exhibits based in historical learning, visitors gain information and an understanding of the important role the United States played in shaping world history. On Sunday, May 21, participants will get a guided tour inside the hanger, getting up close to some of the most fascinating historical machinery and memorabilia. Bring spending money for a souvenir from the small shop; there are no concessions at the museum so please eat before the trip. Ages 5 and over are welcome, but children under 13 years of age must pay and be accompanied by a paying adult. The bus will leave Heritage Park promptly at 12:30 p.m. and return at approximately 4:30 p.m. Waiver required. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to departure time to fill out required paperwork.
Cerritos Residents: Ages 5 to 12 years – $12 and Ages 13 to adult – $25
Non Residents: Ages 5 to 12 years – $18 and Ages 13 to adult – $37
Registration for this excursion is non-transferable. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN UNLESS THE TRIP IS CANCELLED BY THE CITY.
