Recreation Services Program Highlights

Parks make life better!®

Following is a listing of certain upcoming Recreation Services Division programs and activities. Many of the activities require advance registration and participation numbers are limited. Cerritos residents receive priority in registration. To find out about registration dates and procedures, please call the Recreation Services Division at (562) 916-1254.

Dodger Stadium Tour

On Saturday, September 21, the Dodger Stadium Tour provides fans the opportunity to see the ballpark in a unique way. This behind-the-scenes tour allows participants to visit some of the restricted areas and view the stadium from a whole new perspective. As baseball's third oldest stadium in the nation, Dodger Stadium remains one of the game's most beautiful and historic venues. The tour is 80 to 90 minutes long. This is a walking tour so please wear comfortable shoes. Please bring a sack lunch to eat at the conclusion of the tour. Ages 4 and older are welcome, but children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult. The bus will leave Heritage Park promptly at 10 a.m. and return at approximately 3 p.m. Waiver is required. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to departure time to complete required paperwork. The cost is $43 for Cerritos residents and $65 for non-residents. Registration for this excursion is non-transferable. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN UNLESS THE TRIP IS CANCELLED BY THE CITY.

Parent/Child Olympic Play Day

Enjoy various games and sports while focusing on good sportsmanship and teamwork! On Saturday, September 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cerritos Park East, children 2 to 4 years old will complete different activities and exercises in an effort to increase their activity level. Adult participation is required; one adult per child. Only children must register for the class and only registered children may be brought to class. The cost is $16 for Cerritos residents and and $24 for non-residents.

Japanese American National Museum Excursion

Join us on Saturday, October 19 on an excursion to visit the Japanese American National Museum. Visit the largest museum in the United States dedicated to sharing the experience of Americans of Japanese ancestry. The founding of the museum is a story of high hopes, remarkable achievements, frustration and success. Its mission is to promote an understanding and appreciation of America's ethnic and cultural diversity by sharing the Japanese American experience. Bring spending money to visit the Chado Tea Room. Ages 6 and over are welcome, but children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult. The bus will leave Heritage Park promptly at 11 a.m. and return at approximately 5 p.m. Waiver is required. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to departure time to complete required paperwork. The cost is $38 for Cerritos residents and $57 for non-residents. Registration for this excursion is non-transferable. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN UNLESS THE TRIP IS CANCELLED BY THE CITY.

Halloween Festival

Come to the Cerritos Halloween Festival at Don Knabe Community Regional Park, located at 19700 Bloomfield Avenue, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 31. Costume parades, entertainment and game booths will be available for participants of all ages. Food and rides will be available for a nominal fee. For the enjoyment of all and pursuant to Cerritos Municipal Ordinance 9.48.030(p), dogs, cats or pets are not allowed in the park during special events and concerts. Smoking is prohibited within the boundaries of all City of Cerritos public park facilities, pursuant to the Cerritos Municipal Ordinance 9.49.020.

Happy Haunt Fun Zone
Bring children ages 5 years and under to Don Knabe Community Regional Park for a safe night of Halloween fun. Games, crafts and entertainment will provide your preschooler with enjoyment throughout the evening as part of the Halloween Festival from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 31.

Rides
A variety of rides will be available. Most rides require each participant to be at least 42" in height. Adults may be required to accompany children on some rides. All participants must have a ticket or wristband to ride or enter jumpers. All rides and jumpers require one ticket. Tickets are $2 each or $7 each for all-night wristbands. Tickets will not be sold after 8:45 p.m. Only cash will be accepted. Bills over $20 will not be accepted.

Teen Zone
Teens ages 12 to 17 are invited to drop into the Teen Zone for music and activities from 5 to 9 p.m.

Volunteers
Individuals, ages 13 and older, and community organizations with an interest in volunteering at the Halloween Festival should call Heritage Park at (562) 916-8570 before Wednesday, October 16. All volunteers must have an application/waiver on file, be fingerprinted and attend a general volunteer orientation prior to Saturday, October 19.
