International Coatings Company is a pioneer in the production of vinyl and urethane plastics, specialty coatings and adhesives, and a leader in the development of textile screen-printing inks and traffic marking paints. The company’s formulations and products can be found in automobiles, toys, medical appliances, military and aerospace applications, sports equipment, sportswear, athletic jerseys and bags and baseball caps worldwide. International Coatings Company traffic paints can be found on some of the busiest roads, airport tarmacs, parking lots and sports venues in the country.
International Coatings Company was founded in 1957 by Mr. Herbert Wells, a chemist who helped develop Elmer’s Glue while at Borden Chemical. The company began by mixing its custom industrial plastic and adhesive compounds at one of its industrial customer’s facilities. Mr. Wells moved the company into its own building in El Segundo, California in the 1960’s. International Coatings Company entered the textile screen printing industry in the early 1960’s. Many of the ink products developed by Mr. Wells and International Coatings Company have become industry standards and have helped establish the company’s reputation for producing formulations that perform exceptionally well.
In the late 1960’s, Mr. Wells expanded the business by purchasing Los Angeles based Insta Graphic Systems, a heat transfer printer and manufacturer of heat transfer machines. Insta Graphic Systems had been a customer of International Coatings Company and relied on International Coatings’ inks to print its transfers. As the company grew, Mr. Wells moved International Coatings from El Segundo to a larger facility in Compton, and finally to its current location in Cerritos. International Coatings Company and Insta Graphic Systems share the Cerritos facility and have operated there continuously since 1978.
International Coatings Company recently expanded its product offerings to include traffic paint and markings, meeting the growing demand for quality products within that industry. Many municipal governments and airports now rely on International Coatings Line-PRO™ paints for their road, runway, curb and pavement marking needs.
