Proclamation presented June 19, 2017 to Dr. Sheldon B. Pitluk Optometry at Cerritos City Council Chambers.
Dr. Sheldon B. Pitluk opened his family optometry practice in Cerritos in 1979 and has remained committed to providing comprehensive vision care to the City’s residents and the surrounding communities. Dr. Pitluk and his staff of professionals take pride in the personal care for each and every patient, from infants to seniors.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Pitluk completed his undergraduate studies at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he received his bachelor’s degree and graduated cum laude in 1971. He completed his Doctor of Optometry degree from Ohio State University in 1975. Following graduate school, Dr. Pitluk received the E. B. Alexander Fellowship to the Gesell Institute of Child Development in New Haven, Connecticut. After working collaboratively with educators and psychologists, he joined an optometric practice in New York where he was involved with vision therapy and general practice. He then headed to California where he served as a clinical faculty member at the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton. His responsibilities involved contact lenses, vision and learning disabilities and general optometry.
Dr. Pitluk then decided that private practice was his calling and, after searching for the ideal place to open his practice, he chose Cerritos and has remained in the same location for 37 years. In March 2017, Dr. Pitluk moved his office to the Cerritos Triangle commercial center, adjacent to his former location at the Plaza 183 shopping center.
Dr. Pitluk currently offers comprehensive visual care and eye health examinations. His practice offers contact lenses, including toric (for astigmatism), bifocal and other hard-to-fit lenses. He offers LASIK surgery co-management and a complete optical service that includes designer, sports and safety frames. Dr. Pitluk uses state-of-the-art computerized instruments, including digital retinal cameras, computerized refractors and keratometers, visual fields instruments and a computerized glaucoma screener.
Dr. Pitluk is committed to maintaining his clinical skills and strives to provide excellent vision care with a caring and friendly attitude. He has served on the Board of Directors for his local optometric society and attends continuing education classes throughout the year. He remains current in new advances in his field through professional associations, including the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association and American Academy of Optometry.
Sheldon B. Pitluk Optometry is located at 11351 183rd Street in Cerritos in the Cerritos Triangle commercial center at the corner of Gridley Avenue and 183rd Street. His office hours are Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
