Arté Café

Updated November 19, 2020

Proclamation presented May 23, 2013 to Arté Café at Cerritos City Council Chambers.

Arté Café

Richard Alm, the owner of Arté Café, emigrated from Hong Kong to the United States of America and started working in the kitchen of a Japanese restaurant in San Francisco at 18 years of age. He continued to learn to cook at various restaurants before getting a job at the Lafayette Garden Court restaurant near San Francisco.

Alm moved to Los Angeles to finish his electrical engineering degree at California State University, Los Angeles and continued to work in restaurants such as Le Pacific in Los Angeles and the Sky Room in Long Beach.

After completing his degree, he realized he was hooked on cooking and decided to stay in the kitchen. He met his wife, Janice, who was anxious to start her own business. When she found a little coffee shop in Bellflower, it seemed like just the right kind of place to start her new business venture.

The restaurant evolved into a well-established fine dining location. The food, service and ambiance attracted residents from nearby Cerritos. Cerritos customers approached Alm and his wife and asked them to open a restaurant at the newly developed Cerritos Towne Center. Eighteen years later, the restaurant continues to thrive as a fine dining destination.

Arté Café serves Pacific Rim cuisine with a diverse menu, which includes homemade pasta, fresh seafood, tender steaks, exquisitely made sushi and a Kobe beef hamburger. In addition to a diverse French-inspired and Asian-fusion menu, Arté Café also serves tasty desserts, such as tiramisu and the ever-popular crème brûlée trio, which includes vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. Arté Café also has a full wine bar with a variety of wines from around the world for the most selective wine connoisseur.

The restaurant is well known for its beautiful outdoor dining area that is available for customers who would like to dine under the night sky during the spring or summertime. Alm has enjoyed his relationship with the City and with City staff as he embarks on another fruitful year at the Cerritos Towne Center.

Arté Café is located at 12741 Towne Center Drive, Cerritos, CA 90703 and can be reached at (562) 865-2783. The restaurant is open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
