California Educational Centers, Inc. (CEC) was founded by Brian Tom in 1991 while he was attending his dream school, UCLA, and one year before he became blind from the eye disease glaucoma. His vision for the company is reflected in its mission: “Helping every student reach his or her highest academic and social potential.”
CEC provides high quality, affordable academic and enrichment programs for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade in the ABC Unified School District (ABCUSD) and neighboring school districts. CEC helps thousands of students achieve their dreams: Dream Grades, Dream Scores and Dream Schools. CEC offers after-school tutoring and summer programs, test preparation courses and College GoldMind personalized college consulting. After-school tutoring is offered in groups, privately and online.
A proud product of ABCUSD and graduate of Whitney High School’s Class of 1988, Brian has developed the #1 Whitney Test Preparation Program, helping many students gain admission into his alma mater. CEC’s Dream Prep is a top notch SAT and ACT program designed by high-achieving SAT experts who achieved their dream score, for students who want to achieve theirs.
CEC serves more than 4,000 students per week, providing after-school programs for seven elementary schools in Bellflower Unified School District, Macy Intermediate School in Montebello Unified School District, Fisler Elementary School in Fullerton School District, and Bragg and Wittmann Elementary Schools in ABCUSD.
From Whitney High to UCLA, to CNN Headline News and NBC 4 News, Brian Tom “America’s Visionary Speaker” trains both adults and youths to build confidence, develop leadership skills and achieve success. CEC offers Kid Power Public Speaking for children in Kindergarten through 6th grade, MUN Prep/Public Speaking for Middle School and High School students, and Speech Coaching for high school students and adults.
In addition to CEC, Brian Tom is the proud owner of three other companies based in Cerritos: Xtreme Promos, Brian Tom Speaks, and the award winning 501(c) 3 non-profit organization Blind Start of America. He is also a published author of “Stepping Stones to Success,” a book he co-authored with Deepak Chopra, Jack Canfield and Dr. Denis Waitley. A resident of Cerritos for more than 40 years, Brian Tom says, “I dedicate my life to serving others in our community. We help our students overcome challenges in their lives and achieve their dreams!”
