Proclamation presented February 28, 2013 to R.D. Abbott Company at Cerritos City Council Chambers.
R.D. Abbott Company was founded in 1948 and has become one of the largest North American suppliers of materials used in rubber compounding and fabrication, including elastomeric polymers, chemicals and ancillary products. The company represents some very well-known chemical manufacturers, such as 3M, Dow Corning, Lanxess/Bayer Polymers and Lord. Collectively, R.D. Abbott Company’s team offers a diversity of technical backgrounds and expertise rarely found in a single chemical organization. The company offers compound development and optimization, tooling and process design, bonding and surface modification solutions, as well as on site technical service to ensure optimal manufacturing productivity. The company’s products can be found in technical rubber goods, such as bushings, isolators, mounts and seals commonly found in cars, planes, trains and rockets. R.D. Abbott Company also produces applications for medical devices, military aircraft, oilfield equipment and solid rocket motors.
R.D. Abbott consults with various organizations that have a need for rubber engineering expertise, including many of the auto and aerospace original equipment manufacturers and their suppliers, and various United States Governmental agencies. R.D. Abbott also teaches a 20-week Basic Rubber Technology Class for those entering the industry and regularly participates in a "best paper committee" that evaluates, ranks and rewards the best technical papers given each year within the Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society. They also participate in numerous other industry-related organizations, and well as support several philanthropies and scholarships.
