CareMore is a for-profit, privately held corporation based in Cerritos that offers several special needs plans in addition to more traditional Medicare coverage. The company insures approximately 54,000 people in California, Arizona and Nevada. Most of its customers have several chronic conditions, and the company helps manage and coordinate care for patients who take many prescriptions and see several specialists. CareMore uses a sophisticated information technology system, with proprietary products that include remote monitoring devices, to coordinate care for patients who have multiple health problems and are the costliest segment of the population to treat.
CareMore's approach to health care saves Medicare money by reducing multiple doctor visits, decreasing hospital stays and offering better instructions and care to patients so they are more likely to stay on their treatment plans. CareMore's patient services include such nontraditional offerings as free transportation to its clinics, free three-month fitness center memberships and house calls by doctors and nurses.
In 2011, CareMore Health Plan was one of 30 Medicare plans nationally to be recognized for cost-sharing effectiveness and value in the design of their 2011 medical and Part D prescription drug benefits for Medicare beneficiaries. CareMore's Value Plus Medicare Advantage plan received the 2011 Senior Choice Gold Award in several communities throughout the United States. The award recipients were selected from over 200 Medicare managed care plans based on cost-sharing comparisons conducted by HealthMetrix Research Inc., a national independent managed care research firm.
