United States Census 2020

Each decade, the United States Census Bureau conducts a population count, known as the U.S. Census, of all individuals residing within the nation. Data obtained through the U.S. Census is utilized by the federal government to determine the distribution of Congressional seats for each state; make planning decisions related to the allocation of resources for community services and infrastructure; distribute more than $675 billion annually in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments; and serve as the nation’s primary demographic resource. Additionally, Census data impacts funding and grant opportunities the City of Cerritos may receive, which are used to pay for core City services, including recreation and public safety services.

Census Day is April 1, 2020, and Cerritos residents should plan to complete and submit their Census questionnaire on or before April 1, 2020. Beginning mid-March, the U.S. Census Bureau will be mailing Census questionnaire invitations to each household, with instructions on completing and submitting the questionnaire. Residents will be able to submit their Census questionnaires online, by mail or via telephone to the U.S. Census Bureau for processing. All information obtained by the U.S. Census through this process is required to be kept confidential by law.

Cerritos residents are urged to participate and be counted in the upcoming 2020 Census. For additional information, please visit www.2020census.gov.
