CCPA kicks off New Year with January gems

Ring in 2020 at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) with this exciting January lineup.

The month opens with a must-see for classic Rock fans: British Rock Royalty. The musical treat is a high-energy showcase of the timeless hits of Pink Floyd, The Who, Queen and Led Zeppelin. Vocalist-producer Brody Dolyniuk and his band present the songs as audiences want to hear them, from "Comfortably Numb" to "Kashmir" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" to "Pinball Wizard," backed by state-of-the-art video, lighting and lasers. Tickets start at $30 for the 8 p.m. Saturday, January 4 show.

Frankie Avalon & Chubby Checker will have you dancing in the aisles with their all-time hits on Sunday, January 5 at 7 p.m. Avalon dominated with the tunes "De De Dinah," "Why" and "Venus." Grammy winner Checker opens the show. His smash hit "The Twist" was named the No. One song of all time for the "Billboard Hot 100" music chart. Tickets start at $70.

The Temptations is back with its timeless tunes on Friday, January 10 at 8 p.m. The Grammy-winning Soul-R&B quintet performs its classics, which include "The Way You Do the Things You Do," "My Girl," "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" and "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." Tickets start at $70.

The hilarious host of "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" returns to the CCPA for a night of laughs on Saturday, January 11 at 8 p.m. A Mark Twain Award for Humor recipient, Jay Leno is also a best-selling author, a People's Choice Award winner and a Television Academy Hall of Fame inductee. Tickets start at $80. The show is sponsored by Aria Apartment Homes.

Share an afternoon with some founders of the Folk music movement in "Legends of Folk," which comes to the CCPA on Sunday, January 12 at 3 p.m. The concert features Grammy winner The Kingston Trio ("Tom Dooley"), The Limeliters ("Whiskey in the Jar") and special guest The Brothers Four ("Greenfields"). Comedian Scott Wood hosts. Ticket prices start at $50.

Catch the Grammy winners Kool & The Gang on Friday, January 17 at 8 p.m. The legendary group's hits include the groovin' songs "Celebration," "Ladies Night," "Cherish," "Jungle Boogie" and "Get Down on It." Tickets start at $80.

Frankie Valli has bedazzled generations of fans and critics with a string of hits, including "My Eyes Adored You," "Grease" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You." As The Four Seasons' front man, Valli's distinctive falsetto led the band to the top of the music charts with "Sherry," "Walk Like a Man," "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Rag Doll." Enjoy the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer on Saturday, January 18 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, January 19 at 7 p.m. Ticket prices start at $110.

Don't miss music icons Tony Orlando and Crystal Gayle "Live in Concert" on Friday, January 24 at 8 p.m. Orlando's bevy of hits includes "Knock Three Times" and the chart-buster "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Ole Oak Tree." Beguiling Grammy winner Gayle, who opens the show, dominated music charts with "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" and the No. One hit "I'll Get Over You." Ticket prices start at $60.

The tribute show "MJ LIVE" brings Michael Jackson's biggest hits – "Bad," "Billie Jean," "Beat It," "Thriller," "Black & White" and many more – to Cerritos! A talented impersonator electrifies audiences with the one-of-a-kind voice and amazing dance moves that are uniquely the late "King of Pop's." See it for yourself on Saturday, January 25 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $40.

The CCPA presents "An Intimate Evening With David Foster: Hitman Tour" featuring special guest Katharine McPhee on Sunday, January 26 at 7 p.m. A Grammy-Golden Globe-Emmy winner, Foster is the mastermind behind smash hits such as Andrea Bocelli's "The Prayer," Kenny Loggins' "Forever," Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" and Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me." He will be accompanied by a band and singer-songwriter-actress and "American Idol" star Katharine McPhee. The show is sponsored by Cerritos Auto Square.

In "Ocean Soul," National Geographic photographer Brian Skerry shares tales of his journeys from the North Atlantic, where harp seals face off with commercial hunters, to the Gulf of St. Lawrence in search of Atlantic blue-fin tuna and to research facilities studying dolphin intelligence. Mark your calendar for Thursday, January 30 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $45.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with the Golden Dragon Acrobats. The culture and traditions of the Chinese people burst forth in this spellbinding display of award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music and theatrical techniques. Enjoy the Far East experience on Friday, January 31 at 8 p.m. Ticket prices start at $40.
