Changes made to City's General Municipal Election

February 23, 2018

The Cerritos City Council recently approved a resolution adopting a California Voter Participation Rights Act Plan to consolidate future general municipal elections with a California statewide primary or statewide general election date.

An ordinance was approved changing the date of the City's General Municipal Election from the second Tuesday of April in odd-numbered years to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of even-numbered years commencing no earlier than March 3, 2020.

The annual Mayoral Transition will occur in non-election years no earlier than April 1 and no later than the Wednesday prior to the last regular or special Council meeting in April. In election years, the annual Mayoral Transition will occur at the first regular or special meeting in April after ratification of election results.
