"999 For Kids" fundraiser planned

August 25, 2017

Deputies from the Cerritos Sheriff's Station will be participating in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's annual team relay swim from Catalina Island to Cabrillo Beach to support "999 For Kids." This year's swim will take place from Saturday, September 16 to Sunday, September 17. There will be a barbecue and an opportunity drawing at the end of the swim.

To support this year's swim team and purchase tickets for the opportunity drawing, contact Emely Merina at (562) 916-1252. Tickets are $5 each. Among the prizes are:

  • Two-night stay at the Ritz Carlton
  • Diamond ring (value $3,500)
  • Sunday brunch at the Hotel Maya
  • Ride on the Port of Los Angeles patrol boat

All funds raised will go to "999 For Kids," which was created in 1985 through a joint effort of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the County's Department of Children and Family Services. The two agencies began working together after recognizing a need to help physically and mentally challenged children who are medically vulnerable or are victims of the most severe cases of child abuse, neglect and family violence.

The program raises money to purchase special items and services for these children, including sport wheelchairs, computers, special education classes, medically oriented toys and games.
