City sets regulations on marijuana cultivation

December 30, 2016

In response to the state proposition legalizing marijuana use passed by California voters in November, the City Council has approved a municipal code amendment regarding the cultivation of the plant within Cerritos boundaries.

Under the new City ordinance, only six living marijuana plants may be cultivated for personal use within a residence. Outdoor cultivation of marijuana remains prohibited. In addition, anyone planning to cultivate marijuana within his or her residence must register and apply for a permit from the Department of Community Development prior to indoor cultivation.

Applicants must also consent to the City conducting random inspections at the property. For more information, call the Community Development Department at (562) 916-1201.
