"999 For Kids" fundraiser planned

August 30, 2016

Deputies from the Cerritos Sheriff's Station will be participating in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's annual team relay swim from Catalina Island to Cabrillo Beach to support "999 For Kids." This year's swim will begin on Saturday, September 24 and finish on Sunday, September 25. There will be a barbecue and an opportunity drawing at the end of the swim.

To support this year's swim team and purchase tickets for the opportunity drawing, please contact Emely Merina at (562) 916-1252. Tickets are $5 each. Among the prizes are:

  • Diamond ring from Kobelli (valued at $2,999)
  • Two-night stay at the Ritz Carlton
  • Disneyland tickets
  • Barbecue grill from Orchard Supply Hardware
  • Ports O'Call restaurant Sunday brunch and harbor cruise for four
  • World War I vintage plane ride

All funds raised will go to "999 For Kids," which was created in 1985 through a joint effort of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the County's Department of Children and Family Services. The two agencies began working together after recognizing a need to help physically and mentally challenged children who are medically vulnerable or are victims of the most severe cases of child abuse, neglect and family violence.

The program raises money to purchase special items and services for these children, including sport wheelchairs, computers, special education classes, medically oriented toys and games.
