It's the law: Clean up after pets

September 23, 2016

The City of Cerritos would like to remind all residents that it is the law to clean up after their pets, whether they are on sidewalks, private front yards, school fields or parks. Title 10 of the Los Angeles County Code specifically prohibits a person from leaving pet waste on any public property or any private property that is not his or her own.

It is important to keep our City and the environment clean, and animal waste can easily get into City storm drains and flow into the ocean. To assist pet owners with clean-up, some City parks are equipped with special refuse bags.

In addition to cleaning up after their pets, residents must observe the City's leash law, which states that all dogs must be kept on a leash while in public. Keeping your pet safely on a leash protects other residents, guests, City workers and your pet.

To complain about a barking dog, contact the City's Community Safety Division at (562) 916-1266.
