CCPA packs October lineup with exciting shows

The October schedule at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) is filled with exciting acts.

With her Grammy-winning international hit "It Must Be Him," Vikki Carr is one of the most celebrated voices in the United States, Latin America and Europe. The three-time Grammy and Latin Grammy winner delivers her hits – which include "The Lesson," "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," "For Once in My Life" and "Pen in Hand" – on Saturday, October 1 at 8 p.m.

Award-winning actress Carol Burnett will take questions from the audience in "An Evening of Laughter and Reflection" at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5 and Thursday, October 6. The comedienne shares stories and video clips from "The Carol Burnett Show," where her studio audience had an opportunity to ask the icon questions and receive spontaneous answers. This Performance Partner Program has a no refund, no exchange policy.

Named male vocalist of the year by the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music, Clint Black has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and has dominated music charts with the hits "A Better Man," "Killin' Time," "Like the Rain," "Nobody's Home" and "Walkin' Away." The Grammy winner returns to Cerritos on Saturday, October 8 at 8 p.m.

The enchanting biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to life in Andrew Lloyd Webber's and Tim Rice's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat." The timeless musical weaves together a diverse palette of musical styles from Country-Western to Calypso with a live orchestra. The show times are Friday, October 14 and 21 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, October 15 and 22 at 2 and 8 p.m.; Sunday, October 16 and 23 at 2 p.m.; and Thursday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. This Broadway Performance Partner show offers ticket exchanges only for a new performance date and time within the series, subject to service charge and seating availability.

Composer Rob Kapilow kicks off his 2016-2017 "What Makes It Great?" series in Cerritos with "Gershwin – An American in Paris" on Wednesday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. In a three-part format, Kapilow dissects the musical composition. The pieces are then performed with the Cal State Fullerton Orchestra and a lively Q&A concludes the evening.

The New Christy Minstrels' influence on Pop and Folk music is indisputable, with chart-topping hits like "Green, Green," "This Land Is Your Land," "Denver" and the Oscar-winning song "Chim Chim Cher-ee." The ensemble returns to Cerritos Friday, October 28 at 8 p.m.

With its breakthrough role in the 1996 comedy "Swingers," Big Bad Voodoo Daddy intoxicated audiences and cast a spell on the American contemporary swing scene. Known for its high-octane performances and the hits "Go Daddy-O," "You & Me & the Bottle Makes Three Tonight (Baby)" and "Mr. Pinstripe Suit," the band celebrates the music of Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan and Louie Prima with a show on Saturday, October 29 at 8 p.m.

The Platinum-selling band Foreigner puts an acoustic spin on its timeless songs in "The Hits Unplugged" on Sunday, October 30 at 7 p.m. The group dominated the music charts throughout the '70s and '80s with a string of Top 10 hits, including "Waiting for a Girl Like You," "I Want to Know What Love Is," "Cold as Ice" and "Hot Blooded."
