Frontier Communications has purchased Verizon's cable TV and landline phone operations

April 22, 2016

Verizon informed the City of Cerritos earlier this year that its landline telephone and FiOS cable television operations in the City were purchased by Frontier Communications. Verizon reported that according to Frontier Communications, transitioning customers' services and pricing would not change.

The sale of Verizon's landline telephone and FiOS cable television operations to Frontier Communications was reviewed and approved by the California Public Utilities Commission and the Federal Communications Commission. As the City does not hold a cable television or telephone franchise with Verizon, the City did not have regulatory authority over the transaction. The City also does not have the authority to regulate cable television or telephone rates.

Verizon sent notices about the sale of its operations to Frontier Communications to customers by postal mail, email and via bill messages earlier this year. Before the transfer, Frontier Communications sent transitioning customers via postal mail a Welcome Kit with information about their transition to Frontier. The company also sent these customers a follow-up email message with the information.

The transaction was completed after March 31, 2016. At that time the company began operating under the name Frontier Communications. (Verizon Wireless customers and services were not affected by this transaction.)

The advance information sent to customers by Verizon and Frontier Communications prior to March 31 addressed customers' questions leading up to and following the transition to Frontier.
