City of Cerritos Mayor George Ray sports an Angels baseball cap in support of a new Play Ball initiative launched by Major League Baseball (MLB) and the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM). The Angels opener will be held tonight (Monday, April 4) at 7 p.m. at Angel Stadium with the team hosting the Chicago Cubs.

The Play Ball initiative focuses on baseball and encourages sustained participation in the sport for years to come, with a specific focus on youth participation. During the summer of 2016, MLB, with the help of mayors across the country, will implement "Play Ball Summer" with the goal of energizing communities and generating support and love for baseball and softball.

The City of Cerritos offers extensive opportunities for youngsters and adults to play baseball and softball, including an Adaptive Sports Day—Baseball program; TriFytt Preschool Spots; Youth Baseball/Rookie T-Ball; and an Adult Slow Pitch League.
