MINUTES OF A JOINT REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CERRITOS CITY COUNCIL AND THE
CERRITOS REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
HELD MARCH 13, 2008
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Cerritos City Hall, 18125 Bloomfield Avenue, Cerritos, California.
INVOCATION
Pastor Thel Bringas of Life Stream Worship Center in Norwalk offered the invocation.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Jeffrey Inomoto, California Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 846, led the assembly in the salute to the flag.
ROLL CALL
The City Clerk noted attendance of the following Members of the City Council/Redevelopment Agency:
Councilman/Member Bruce W. Barrows
Councilman/Member Joseph Cho, Ph.D.
Mayor Pro Tem/Vice Chair Jim Edwards
Mayor/Chair Laura Lee
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Alex Torres, Cerritos resident, indicated his home had been burglarized, commented on Sheriff's Department response and requested assistance in addressing his concerns related to that response. Staff was directed to contact Mr. Torres.
INTRODUCTIONS
Elected and appointed dignitaries and representatives in the audience as well as friends and family members were recognized and thanked for attending the meeting.
CITY COUNCIL/REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY REORGANIZATION
At this juncture, the City Clerk declared the office of Mayor/Chair vacant and called for nominations for the office of Mayor/Chair.
Mayor/Chair Lee presented the qualifications of and nominated Jim Edwards for the office of Mayor/Chair. Councilman/Member Cho seconded the nomination. There were no other nominations and the nominations were closed. The City Clerk then declared Jim Edwards elected to the office of Mayor/Chair by acclamation.
The office of Mayor Pro Tem/Vice Chair was declared vacant by the Mayor/Chair Edwards and he called for nominations for the office of Mayor Pro Tem/Vice Chair.
Councilman/Member Cho presented the qualifications of and nominated Bruce Barrows for the office of Mayor Pro Tem/Vice Chair. The nomination was seconded by Mayor/Chair Edwards. There were no other nominations and the nominations were closed. The Mayor/Chair declared Bruce Barrows elected to the office of Mayor Pro Tem/Vice Chair by acclamation.
NEWLY DESIGNATED MAYOR/CHAIR MAKES PRESENTATION TO IMMEDIATE PAST MAYOR/CHAIR
Mayor/Chair Edwards presented immediate past Mayor/Chair Lee with a scrapbook and additional mementos commemorating her Mayoral term.
PRESENTATIONS FROM SPECIAL GUESTS
Dignitaries, elected officials and their representatives presented Mrs. Lee with plaques in recognition of her service to the City.
COMMENTS FROM MAYOR/CHAIR AND COUNCILMEMBERS
The Mayor/Chair and Council/Agency Members offered general comments on previous accomplishments and plans for the upcoming year.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Council/Agency, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. in memory of former Cerritos City Manager Gaylord Knapp who recently passed away.
