Construction at Cerritos Civic Center

Construction is currently taking place at the Cerritos Civic Center as part of a groundwater remediation project. For the safety of pedestrians and motorists, the drive aisle north of the Cerritos Library that connects the Civic Center to Bloomfield Avenue is expected to be closed intermittently through the end of March. The closures will occur between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Please use 183rd Street to access the Civic Center parking lot.

Iron-Wood Nine Golf Course closed for repairs

Cerritos Iron-Wood Nine Golf Course is closed for repairs, effective immediately. On December 19, a gasoline leak was identified on a privately owned existing pipeline on site. The leak was stopped and repair work has begun. The Golf Course will remain closed until repairs are completed. Contractors are making every effort to perform the repairs as quickly as possible. 2022-24 City of Cerritos Appointments Brochure (PDF)

Recruitment is currently under way for service appointments to the City’s various Commissions and Committees. The Commissions and Committees serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council on various matters ranging from the selection and placement of public art installations to technical urban regional planning matters. Eligible individuals will serve two-year terms through April 30, 2024. Online applications are available at the following link: Application. The deadline for submitting an application has been extended until all positions are filled.

Residential organic waste recycling program in effect

The City's new residential organic waste recycling program expands the list of items to be placed in your green trash cart to include both green waste and food waste. Examples of targeted organic waste now include green waste (previously accepted); coffee grounds; fruits and vegetables; bread, rice and pasta; cheese; meats and bones; food-soiled pizza boxes, paper plates, napkins and paper towels; and paper egg cartons.

Athens Services takes over City's trash collection

August 24, 2022

In April, trash service in the City of Cerritos was transferred from CalMet Services, Inc. to Athens Services. Because Athens utilized CalMet's staff and equipment to service Cerritos accounts, there was no immediate change to collection routes, trucks, billing, fees or contact information. Effective September 1, Cerritos accounts will be billed for trash service through Athens Services.

Wearing a mask in crowded indoor public places is strongly recommended for vulnerable people (the unvaccinated, those that are immunocompromised, have certain disabilities or have underlying health conditions, and those at risk of severe illness or death if they are infected with COVID-19. )

  • The County of Los Angeles offers assistance to residential tenants seeking rental assistance and support during the COVID-19 pandemic. These resources include information regarding COVID-19 rental protections (AB 3088), LA County temporary eviction protections, and other financial/legal protections for tenants. L.A. County Assessor’s information

  • The L.A. County Assessor Homeowners' Exemption program reduces the assessed value of a home or condo by $7,000 for tax purposes, which translates to a reduction of $70 annually to a homeowner's property tax bill. For more information visit assessor.lacounty.gov/homeowners-exemption/.
  • Please note that the County of L.A. Treasurer and Tax Collector does NOT conduct in-person visits to collect property tax payments. If you are contacted at your home about this, notify the Cerritos Sheriff's Station immediately at (562) 860-0044.
